Whether you are an RVing pro or looking to rent an RV for the first time and give it a go, if you're searching for the perfect summer getaway, here are ten reasons to consider RVing in Northern Ontario.

Scenic Beauty

Driving through Northern Ontario is like entering a postcard-worthy landscape at every turn. The region is renowned for its expansive forests, crystal-clear lakes, and rugged terrain. One of our favorite destinations is Lake Superior's northern shores, where the sparkling waters and dramatic cliffs never fail to leave us in awe.

Discover the beauty of Manitoulin Island, Northern Ontario's perfect RVing destination. It is the largest freshwater island in the world, dotted with sandy beaches and friendly communities, and offers hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities.

Whether you are a nature lover or a photography enthusiast, Northern Ontario offers endless opportunities to immerse yourself in its stunning scenery.

Outdoor Recreation

Northern Ontario is a playground for outdoor adventurers of all kinds. Whether you enjoy fishing, paddling, cycling or hiking, you'll find plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore. Discover amazing hiking trails in Lake Superior Provincial Park, ride Ontario's best mountain bike trails in Sault Saint Marie or paddle along wild rivers and rocky shores. And if you're craving some adrenaline-pumping action, you can't go wrong with a thrilling ATV ride through the rugged backcountry. No matter what your outdoor passion may be, Northern Ontario has something for everyone.

Cultural and Historical Attractions

In addition to its natural beauty, Northern Ontario is also rich in history and culture. From Indigenous heritage sites to historic towns, there's no shortage of fascinating attractions to explore. You can learn about northern Ontario's Indigenous history and culture through guided tours and cultural experiences. You can also discover the history of logging in Hearst, silver mining in Cobalt, and uranium in Elliot Lake.

Northern Lights Viewing

One of the most magical experiences you can have in Northern Ontario is witnessing the Northern Lights. With its clear night skies and minimal light pollution, the region offers prime viewing conditions for this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.

Park your RV at the Manitoulin Eco Park & DarkSky campground, where the dark skies provide excellent star viewing and, with some luck, the Northern Lights. Viewing the Northern Lights requires location, knowledge, and some effort. To increase your chances, check out How to See the Northern Lights in Ontario 2024: The Ultimate Guide.

Culinary Delights

An RV trip isn't complete without indulging in some delicious local cuisine, and Northern Ontario delivers on that front. From fresh-caught fish to mouthwatering wild game, the region offers an array of culinary delights waiting to be savored. Be sure to stop at the local farmers' markets to sample fresh produce and artisanal goods. And, of course, an RV trip to Northern Ontario wouldn't be complete without trying the iconic giant apple fritter at The Voyageurs' Lodge.

Tranquility and Serenity

One of the things we love most about RV travel is the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. Northern Ontario offers the perfect backdrop for a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway. Whether camping by the edge of the beach at Lake Superior Provincial Park, a remote lake deep in the forest at  Racine Lake Campground, or by a pool at   Serpent River Campground, you'll find plenty of opportunities to unwind and recharge.

Friendly Communities

One of the things that struck me most about Northern Ontario was the warmth and hospitality of its communities. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with open arms and made to feel right at home. Whether chatting with locals at a roadside diner or fellow RV park campers, we are constantly reminded of the kindness and generosity of the people of Northern Ontario and fellow RVers. At one point during our week-long RV tour of Algoma, we forgot our axe at the previous campground, and I was trying to chop wood for the fire with a tool that was not up to the job. Three of our new neighbors were almost instantly over with axes I could use.

Road Trip Adventures

Embarking on an RV road trip through Northern Ontario is an adventure. With its scenic drives and picturesque routes, the journey is just as rewarding as the destination. Climb to the top of the fire tower in Temagami, walk with alpacas at Dream Acres Alpaca Farm, and discover waterfalls and grand vistas at the end of a hike. Take a selfie with the "Big Nickel" in Sudbury, the "Wawa Goose" in Wawa or "Winnie The Poo" in White River; there was always something new and exciting to discover around every bend in the road.

Unforgettable Memories

Ultimately, what truly sets Northern Ontario apart is the memories you'll make along the way. From breathtaking natural wonders to unforgettable encounters with locals, every moment spent in Northern Ontario is a treasure to be cherished. Whether watching the sunset over Lake Superior or sharing stories around the campfire with newfound friends, you'll come away from your RV trip with a lifetime of memories that will stay with you long after you return home.

So there you have it, ten reasons why you should consider RVing in Northern Ontario this summer. From its stunning scenery to its warm and welcoming communities, Northern Ontario offers an unforgettable RV experience that will leave you with memories to last for life.
